Business First puts the "fun" in fundraising to scoop Pendleside Hospice award
Business First scooped an award for putting the "fun" into fundraising at the Pendleside Hospice Corporate Challenge awards ceremony.
We were delighted to win the LOL - laugh out loud - award for one of our funniest fundraising moments - a charity leg wax endured by Burnley centre manager Michael Woodvine.
Judges who watched a video of Michael's leg wax said it epitomised the lighthearted side of the Corporate Challenge, which sees businesses from across the area go head to head in a bid to raise as much money as possible for the hospice.
Michael volunteered to have his legs waxed by one of his tenants, Claire from Glamour Nails, who runs a salon from our Burnley business centre. The event saw crowds gather in the reception area at Burnley business centre to witness Michael's ordeal.
During an excruciating 18-minute waxing session, Michael had to pause for a glass of prosecco to numb the pain.
We held a number of other fundraising events during the course of the four-month charity challenge, including sponsored bike rides, runs and children's walks, a food festival, dress down day and the chance to win an all-expenses-paid lunch with a centre manager.
The Pendleside Hospice Corporate Challenge awards ceremony was held at Burnley Mechanics last Friday, 2 November.
It was presented by Simon Brierley, managing director of 2BR. Representatives from the majority of the 40 businesses who took part in the challenge joined forces to celebrate a fantastic four months of fundraising fun.
On the night, Michael was accompanied by Business First director Sarah Fretwell, operations support Caroline Djali, Blackburn centre manager Candy Powell and marketing team members Alison King and Emma Daffern.
Michael beat off stiff competition to win the "Laugh Out Loud" award, which was presented by Mark Irlam from Colne Networking.
There was also success for Burnley Business First tenants Root Fifty Two, who won the Woman of the Year award for Kayleigh James.
Pendleside Hospice announced that this year's Corporate Challenge raised a total of £157,036.
Having joined the challenge late, we were delighted to be able to raise £1,378.81 towards the final total.
